Winnipeg weather is crazy...

Well, I need to find some kind of way to incorporate posting to this blog as part of my daily/weekly routine. I thought I would have been able to stick to my plan of blogging here frequently, but, that just hasn't happened... at all...

One of the hardest things I've always found when photographing Winnipeg is trying to find a new look and angle of the city. With it being a smaller place, with so many excellent photographers, naturally it is difficult to find that unique perspective or style, and I have always hated doing the same thing as other people! I saw a quote that sums that feeling up the other day actually,

"Photography is the easiest medium with which to be merely competent. Almost anybody can be competent. It's the hardest medium in which to have some sort of personal vision and to have a signature style" - Chuck Close

Over the last few months I've "developed" a mental list to try to help me push myself and my eye by limiting myself in different ways. I have a set of certain things I WONT do because I feel like they are played out, and too easy. Along with that set of things I will limit myself mechanically with my camera by only shooting within certain parameters , and I feel like it is definitely helping me to progress. Slowly but surely.

Anyway, this has been the longest blog post yet, so, I'll stop there. Here are some photos from mid March to mid May. The weather was weird, and continues to be inconsistent... so, there is some fog, some snow, some sunsets and some rain. As always, I'll TRY to keep this updated although I'm basically the only one that looks at it.

Shooting a ton.. blogging never...

The broken record continues... been out shooting quite a bit and never seem to find the time to throw up any of those photos on here...

I'll get better. I promise.

These are some of the things that happened since the last post!

Winnipeg...

I feel like I'm saying this every time I post... but... so much for posting to the blog regularly. I've been busy with a ton of things going, so as usual, I put my new years resolution of updating the blog frequently on the back burner.

The one thing I did stick with though is trying to get myself out and shooting around my city as much as I can, and not using old excuses to not get out and shoot. Those excuses being... the weather, how bland and boring I felt the city was, or how every photo has already been done here. I was hoping that in doing so I would gain a better appreciation for Winnipeg as a city and hometown... and I think it is working...

I actually look forward to walking around downtown for a few hours every couple days and trying to look at things differently, talk to people, explore places I'd never been in, and it is definitely making me less and less bitter about Winnipeg.

Who knows... maybe some day I'll learn to like... or even love it...

Last Blog Post

Now that it is a few days till 2016, this will be the last secretive blog post till I'll actually show people this. These are just a few of my favourites from Minneapolis from the beginning of the month.

As a resolution for 2016, I'm going to get photos up here at least twice a week, and hopefully that gets me out shooting more than I did in 2015. Anyway, won't be back to Minneapolis for a few months unfortunately, can't wait to get back. Until then, there is going to be a bunch of Winnipeg coming!

Cheers.

End Of October

This entire year is flying by so fast. For the rest of the year I may not be able to post much, but I do have another trip to Minneapolis coming up in December. I will try getting some of those photos up on the blog before the end of the year!
