This was taken exactly 2 years ago this upcoming weekend. It was on my first week out shooting photos with this new mindset to change my opinion of Winnipeg. I remember trying to find alleys all evening that would frame one of our more well known buildings. I think I was inspired by all those shots of the Manhattan Bridge in New York, where people had used the buildings in the foreground to frame it up (I'll put one in my story to show what I'm talking about).

After a few hours of walking around I headed back to my car, and I happened to walk down this alley, and it worked out perfectly. Originally I just wanted to shoot a long exposure to include the cross traffic tail lights at the intersection ahead. I got a few of those, and then went to pack up. When I was breaking down the tripod, and looked at the last shot, I realized I could make use of the puddle further ahead of me to add little more to the shot. So I got the tripod all set up in the puddle and when I did a brinks truck turned down the alley ahead. I was actually bummed at first cause I thought it was going to look stupid in the frame... and it did... until I tried to block some of the direct headlight by lining up my lens with the "road closed" sign across the street. When I did that, it helped to create a more direct beam of light giving me the bursts.

I think this will probably always be one of my favourite shots that I've taken in Winnipeg. Not because it's the best or anything, but, because I remember looking at the shot right after and being so stoked. It was the one that made me realize that Winnipeg could be pretty rad if I took the effort to look at it differently. I got a few weird looks that night, as there were quite a few people parking at the lot beside me (Jets game night) and when you roll around with headphones, sometimes you get lost in your own world... sometimes you might forget, and say "Ohhhh shiiiit!" a little too loud.
